Concept Cars

Mitsubishi Motors worldwide design studios created some of these far-reaching concepts. Customising shops that find Mitsubishi designs to be excellent platforms for tuning and specialising also developed some of the exciting models on display here.

MITSUBISHI CONCEPT GC-PHEV

The Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV is a next-generation full-size SUV with full-time 4WD. It is based on a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) system comprising a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged MIVEC engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery to deliver all-terrain performance truly worthy of an all-round SUV.

The Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV features Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s (MMC) active safety technologies and the advanced “connected car” technology that utilises next-generation information systems. These functions include a danger detection system which activates the corresponding safety functions and a failure/malfunction early-detection system which urges the driver to seek repairs or other maintenance when necessary.

Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II

The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II is an urban crossover employing a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency front-engine/front-wheel drive PHEV system to achieve superior environmental and road performance.

1) Exterior

The XR-PHEV II’s front face expresses a new “Dynamic Shield” concept to protect people and the car alike by evolving the Pajero’s traditional unique “protection” as the bumpers and underneath extended inward and upward respectively. In addition, this front motif is replicated at the rear, featuring a high-mount tail lamp for improved rear visibility.

2) Interior

The interior expresses fortitude through an aluminum frame that spreads out sideways from the central console which supports the minimalist horizontal instrument panel. It features high contrast in the front part with black-and-silver hues. The cockpit was made to functionally enhance the driver’s focus with controls concentrated in the center console and in the steering wheel.

3) PHEV system

The new PHEV system is designed for use in front-engine/front-drive models and comprises a MIVEC engine, a new electric motor/generator and a new power drive unit all mounted up front. The new power drive unit comprises a compact and high-efficiency inverter and variable voltage system to achieve high power and high torque. CO2 emissions reach under 40g/km when on the move – among the very best in terms of environmental performance for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The PHEV system is designed to operate primarily in all-electric mode with the engine acting as a generator or supplying additional motive power when needed. Depending on driving conditions and remaining battery charge, the system automatically switches between all-electric, series hybrid and parallel hybrid modes.

Mitsubishi Concept AR

The Mitsubishi Concept AR is a next-generation compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) which combines crossover maneuverability with MPV roominess. It uses a lightweight mild hybrid system which includes a downsized 1.1-litre direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine. The Mitsubishi Concept AR also features Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s (MMC) latest active safety technologies and the advanced “connected car” technology that utilises next-generation information systems.

These functions include a danger detection system which activates the corresponding safety functions and a failure/malfunction early-detection system which urges the driver to seek repairs or other maintenance when necessary.

Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV

The Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV is a Sport Utility Truck (SUT) concept that delivers next-generation environmental and driving performance. It was developed by blending the best attributes of Mitsubishi Motors’ lauded Triton production model pickup truck while providing the welcome features, comfort and interior spaciousness of a premium sedan or Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). From the C-pillar forward, the Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV’s sweeping exterior design looks like a handsome, aerodynamically-efficient next-generation crossover/SUV. Towards the rear passenger compartment, the body morphs into a supplely-contoured yet highly-functional pickup truck.

Boasting aluminum front air dams, LED headlights and LED rear combination taillights that are both functional and luxurious, this concept car feels right at home whether it is being used for work at the construction site or for an opulently indulgent night on the town. Ample, efficient power is provided by a diesel-hybrid system that makes use of a 2.5-litre clean-diesel engine and an electric motor/lithium-ion battery Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system. What’s more, Mitsubishi Motors’ innovative Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all wheel drive system, accompanied by next-generation Super Select 4WD (SS4WD) that features 4 distinct driver-selected drive modes (2H, 4H, 4HL, 4LL), provides all round drivability. Safety technologies include Active Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
